About the Club

Friendship & Fellowship — serving the Whitianga community since 1976.

A Club Built on Friendship & Fellowship

Mercury Bay Club grew out of a 1972 initiative by the local RSA to explore a new venue and revenue source for the community. The club was incorporated in 1974 and opened its doors in 1976 — a history captured in a club poem written by long-time member Barbara Reid.

What started with 650 members in 1976 has grown to around 1,600 members today. The club remains a hub of the Whitianga community, hosting meetings and providing catering for functions of every kind.

Our Crest

Friendship & Fellowship

The club's crest features Captain Cook's ship, the Endeavour, at anchor in Mercury Bay — a nod to the historic 1769 observation of the transit of Mercury from the mouth of the Purangi River, which gave the bay its name.
